Our namesake and label is inspired by Girl and Pop, Chelsea’s maternal great grandparents, and a series of letters between the two of them and Chelsea’s mom. Pop was born in Iowa, Girl in Port Townsend. They met and married in Port Townsend where Pop was stationed with the Coast Guard. The story goes that Girl would wait on the bluff at the bell tower watching for Pop’s ship to come in and then rush down to meet him. They liked to play cards and had a large group of friends. Pop liked the horse races and good whiskey. Girl liked her port wine and cigarettes. Both of them were always impeccably dressed. They enjoyed picnics, camping and time on the beach. They both loved taking care of the yard and always had beautiful flower gardens. They loved traveling by train and telling stories of the meals they had and the people they met. While it must be fun, it has to stand-up to everything from Spring cookouts to Thanksgiving feasts. The 2023 vintage Rosé of Sangiovese is sourced for the historic Seven Hills Vineyard in the southern Walla Walla Valley. Aromatically vibrant, reminiscent of grapefruit pith, hazelnuts and lightly toasted brioche. On the pallet these aromas migrate towards lemon curd and subtle hints of fresh baguette. Fruit is harvested and pressed for juice. That juice is then fermented nearly dry and bottled with just enough sugar left in the wine that when that initial ferment completes in bottle, it creates the bubbles that make this wine so enjoyable.
